Description
Basic information:
Arbutin is a naturally occurring glycoside derived from green plants. It is an abundant solute in many freeze-drying resistant plants, such as wheat, pears, and bears of the Ericaceae family. Arbutin can be divided into α-arbutin, β-arbutin and deoxyarbutin (D-arbutin). α-arbutin is the epimer of β-arbutin, and its direction of the bond of glycoside in space is opposite to that of β-arbutin, and its properties are also different due to different structures.
From the perspective of material properties, both α-arbutin and β-arbutin can have a whitening effect by inhibiting the activity of tyrosinase. The whitening effect of α-arbutin is about ten times that of β-arbutin. The biological activity of deoxyarbutin is higher than that of α-arbutin and β-arbutin, but it is not favored due to its instability and difficulty in preparation.
From a regulatory perspective, in China, α-arbutin and β-arbutin are cosmetic raw materials in the "Catalogue of Used Cosmetic Raw Materials", while deoxyarbutin has never been included in the "Catalogue of Used Cosmetic Raw Materials". And because deoxyarbutin, as a competitive tyrosinase inhibitor, while having a whitening effect, it also produces harmful substances such as hydroquinone, which can bring health risks to the human body. In July 2022, the Vietnam Drug Administration issued Announcement No. 7048/QLD-MP, including deoxyarbutin in the list of ingredients prohibited for use in cosmetics. In July 2021, the European Union also listed deoxyarbutin as a banned ingredient in cosmetics.
In February 2023, the European Union's Scientific Committee on Consumer Safety (SCCS) issued its final opinion on the safety of α-arbutin and β-arbutin in cosmetics. The maximum safe concentration of α-arbutin in facial cream is 2%, and the maximum safe concentration in body lotion is 0.5%. It is also safe when both are used at the same time; the maximum safe concentration of β-arbutin in facial cream is 7%; In products containing α-arbutin or β-arbutin, the content of hydroquinone should be kept as low as possible and should not be higher than the unavoidable traces of both arbutins. In one latest study, hydroquinone with a limit of quantification (LOQ) of 3 ppm and a limit of detection (LOD) of 1 ppm and the total exposure of arbutin (α-arbutin: 2% in face cream and 0.5% in body lotion and β-arbutin: 7% in face cream) are considered safe.
Functions:
① Whitening, lightening spots
The whitening mechanism of α-arbutin powder for sale is that it is a tyrosinase inhibitor, which can effectively inhibit tyrosinase activity by compete for the binding site of dopa through its direct binding to tyrosinase. It blocks the synthesis of dopa and dopaquinone, thereby interfering with melanocytes and inhibiting melanin production.
② Antioxidant, inhibits intracellular ROS activity
As an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent, α-arbutin for sale can inhibit the activity of intracellular ROS and the expression levels of IL-1β and TNF-α genes. Arbutin may have the ability to scavenge DPPH and ABTS.
③ Anti-inflammatory
α-arbutin can maintain ECM homeostasis and increase collagen expression. α-Arbutin can reduce the expression of cellular inflammatory factors.
④ Radiation protection
α-arbutin is a strong radioprotectant that reduces radiation damage. α-Arbutin shows strong radioprotective properties at 50 mg/kg. This radioprotective effect may be related to antioxidants and free radical scavengers.
Applications:
① Functional raw materials in the field of daily chemicals
Alpha-Arbutin powder for sale can be used in skin care products and cosmetics. It has antioxidant, whitening, anti-inflammatory, moisturizing and other effects. It can prevent and improve skin aging, pigmentation and other problems.
② Raw materials in the pharmaceutical field
Alpha-Arbutin can be used in traditional Chinese medicines for the treatment of cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, liver disease, etc.
③ Additives in the food field
Alpha-Arbutin can be used as an antioxidant and preservative, which can increase the shelf life and nutritional value of food.
④ Functional raw materials in the field of health food
Alpha-Arbutin can be used to make health foods and health products to prevent and treat cardiovascular disease, diabetes, liver disease, obesity and other diseases.
Synthesis:
β-Arbutin can be prepared through three methods: plant extraction, plant cell culture and artificial synthesis. α-Arbutin can generally only undergo sugar transfer reactions through the enzymes of different microorganisms, allowing one molecule of glucose and one molecule of hydroquinone to combine to form a single α-arbutin. Viablife Biotech selects self-developed biosynthetic technology, through strict strain screening and advanced automated processing technology, uses renewable carbon sources to synthesize α-arbutin through biological fermentation, and provides customers with high-quality, stable α-arbutin products.
Advantages of Viablife α-Arbutin:
Pure appearance and color: Viablife α-Arbutin is a pure, snow-white powder with uniform particle size.
Higher purity: Viablife α-arbutin synthesis process is a biosynthetic process, with higher purity and fewer impurities.
Uniform particle size: Viablife α-Arbutin uses a uniform particle size to strictly control the particle size, making α-Arbutin more uniform in particle size, with better fluidity, and can be quickly dissolved.
